Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) MRI

Bilateral TMJ MRI for jaw movement disorder and TMJ pain evaluation. Acquires both closed-mouth and open-mouth bilateral sequences in the sagittal and coronal planes. Very thin slices (2.0 mm) with minimal gap. A bite block or syringe is used to maintain mouth opening during open-mouth sequences.

  • Align parallel to the ramus of the mandible.
  • Cover the mandibular fossa from left to right to include the ramus.
  • For open-mouth sequences: provide the patient with a bite block or syringe large enough to keep the mouth wide open before acquiring.
