MRI Stealth (Stereotactic Surgery Planning)

Isotropic brain MRI for stereotactic surgical navigation planning using the Medtronic StealthStation or equivalent neuronavigation system. Uses the same isotropic sequences as radiation planning. A CD of the 3D sequence is created for the operating room.

No contrast indications listed.

Dose notes

  • Follow department policy regarding contrast administration and dosing.
  • No additional 5-minute wait is required after contrast administration.

Axial planning

  • Slice selection may be orthogonal or angled.
  • Coverage must include air above the scalp and extend below the foramen magnum with balanced superior and inferior coverage.
  • Field of view must cover the entire brain.
  • All sequences must use isotropic 1.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 mm voxels.

Non-enhancing lesion

  • Axial 3D T1 postcontrast sequence is optional when the lesion does not enhance.
  • Acquire Axial T2 FS SPACE and Axial FLAIR 3D for planning in all cases.

Fiducial markers required

  • Neurosurgery must place fiducial markers on the patient prior to scanning.
  • Confirm markers are in place before beginning the exam.
